Description Named one of the "top ten places to smell the flowers" by USA Today, the Minnesota Landscape arboretum is a public display garden with more than 1,000 acres and 5,000 varieties of plants. The Arboretum has 32 display and specialty gardens, a Three-Mile Drive, miles of walking and hiking trails and 8 miles of cross-country ski trails. |

Parking Six designated accessible parking spaces located in the first parking bay, there will be six designated accessible parking spaces located in the upper parking lot until Fall 2003. Accessible parking space is 8 feet wide. Accessible aisle 5 feet wide. Nearby ramps well marked. RV parking will be available in Spring of 2003. |
Entrance The Main Building entrance is north of the Gardens. Nine exterior steps, each 5.5 inches high. Handrails on left. Ramp provided. No automatic doors. Heavy doors not easily opened. Two entry doors, 31.5 inches wide, open out with handle located 40 inches above the floor. Interior steps with handrails located in the east wing near the Auditorium. |
Food and Beverage Facilities Located at the east end of the building. Table height is 30.5 inches. Aisles between tables vary in width. Menus are printed on non glossy surface. |
Elevator Located in the main lobby and at the east end of the building near the auditorium. Serves all levels. Door width is 40 inches. Control buttons are 42 inches high. Elevator car interior is 50 inches by 77 inches. Buttons raised. Door stays open 5 seconds. |
Public Restrooms Located in the west end of the building near the library. Accessible without steps. Doors open in. Turns are required to enter. Unisex or companion assisted rest rooms with grab bars. 19 inch toilet seat height, 10 inches between the commode and the wall. Sink height is 31 inches. Pipes under sink are not wrapped. Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions. Rest rooms identified by raised figures with pants or skirt on the door to designate men or women. |
Public Telephones Lowered phones located in the main lobby. There are also public telephones outside of the main building entrance and on the 2nd floor balcony. Amplified headsets are available. |
Gift Shop Counters are 34 inches high. Temporary displays in aisles. |
Types of Paths to or Around Park/Attraction Asphalt. 90% of the gardens are easily accessible to persons with mobility impairments. Steep grades may require assistance for persons in wheelchairs on the road from the Rose Garden to the Sensory Garden, which is also accessible by vehicle. Length of paths is 150 feet, 10% grade. |

For guests with visual impairments: Audio cassettes and portable tape recorders. Hands-on exhibits such as the Sensory Garden, designed for people with all types of disabilities; wheelchair accessibility; wind chimes; flowers to smell; audio interpretive displays with Braille. Signs printed with contrasting background, on a non-glossy surface. |
Additional Information Members and ages 18 and under admitted free. Gate fee waived Thursdays after 4:30 p.m. Open 363 days a year (closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day). Grounds are open 8 a.m. to sunset, April 1 to October 1, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Novenber 1 to March 31. The Snyder Building Hours April 1 to October 31: Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. November 1 to March 31: Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Group, wedding, and facility rental information and policies are available at 952-443-1411, or stop in at the Lobby Desk.
